How to Rock This Season’s Neon Makeup Trend
As soon as the first bloom of spring blossomed, neon colors were dominating the timelines of Instagram lovers through sporty & fashionable jumpsuits and flirty eyeshadow palettes. As the temperatures rise, the hotter the neon trend becomes. However, there are tons of ladies who are very hesitant to figure out how to work this trend into their makeup looks.
After all, neon green eyeshadow can seem a little intimidating to apply. Thankfully, there are a few solid rules you can follow in order to perfectly execute the trend, look confidently flawless, and stand as the trendiest girl in the room. Read on for some tips on how to rock this trend.
Choose One Feature
Because neon colors are incredibly pigmented, they naturally dominate a look. Avoid using neon makeup all over the face. Instead, choose one facial feature that you’d like to highlight with the neon look.
For the beginner, the eyes are probably the most on-trend option to try. You can wear a bold pop of eyeshadow for an event during the day without looking like you’re trying too hard. If you’d like to take it up a notch for a nighttime event, a neon lipstick might be an interesting option to try.
Apply a Great Base
When it’s time to create the perfect neon eye, recognize the importance of a base. A base coat is essential because it will increase the effectiveness of the pigment you choose, and it allows the neon shade to shine as the star player it is.
To apply concealer, you can use a brush or your fingers to gently dab the product across the area where you will be applying eyeshadow. While it’s fine to use a flesh-colored concealer to cover any blemishes or dark circles underneath the eyes, it’s best to use a white concealer as the base for your eyeshadow.
Choose One or Two Colors
When you’re beginning to experiment with neon colors, stick to one or two colors that are complementary. A neon pink eyeshadow with a neon orange eyeliner can work. Make one color the main focus and if you really want to include an additional color, make it an accessory to the main color.
Use Dark Colors for Dimension
Contrast and dimension are elements you’ll want to include in any makeup look but, it’s especially essential for a neon makeup application. The best way to add dimension to a neon eye is through the eyelashes. Use dark mascara, and keep in mind that it’s best to apply a few coats of a volumizing or lengthening formula.
This concept doesn’t apply to your eyebrows. Allow your eyebrows to frame your face in a soft, subtle way. When it pertains to brows, take an editorial approach by making sure they’re trimmed and neat. Avoid too much penciling or plucking.
Use Tools
When you’re applying a fun shade of lipstick or inserting eyeshadow near the tear ducts, it’s not uncommon to use the fingers for application. Unfortunately, there’s very little room for error with neon, highly-pigmented makeup products. When you’re dabbing eyeshadow on the lids, always use a makeup brush. Use a brush with a fine tip for the most accuracy.
Take Your Time
If you really want to make sure the look turns out perfectly, take your time to get it right. You don’t want to get flustered with applying anything more than once. It’s okay to gently hold the skin taut as you slowly apply your eye makeup. It’s also a great idea to use a pencil to mark your area before you use a neon liquid eyeliner as it eliminates the guessing game of where to draw the line.
Consider the Full Look
It’s best to completely eliminate the competition when you’re rocking a neon makeup look. For the hair, consider options where it is either pulled back into a sleek ponytail or bun. Simple jewelry and a chic outfit will continue to pull the look together well.
Since we’re dealing with neon colors, know that you’ll have to commit to whatever you try. There’s nothing subtle about neons. Allow your own personality and creativity to have fun in regards to where you choose to apply the neon look. When you implement these tips, you’ll definitely rock the neon makeup trend well.
