Side Effects and Directions

Be sure to test this on a small portion of hair prior to use for possible negative side effects, especially if you’ve chemically treated your hair recently. Since a full ingredient list is not available, we aren’t able to tell whether or not this is safe for chemically-treated hair.

After shampooing and conditioning hair, comb a small amount through damp hair and style as normal. Do not rinse out.

In-Depth Review

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair is part of Aveda’s Damage Remedy line of products, which is designed to counter the damage that hair receives as the result of neglect, chemical treatments, heat treatments, and environmental factors. Although a full ingredient list is not available, we know that this product’s main ingredients are organic and are all combined in a light formula that won’t leave much residue on your hair.

So what’s inside? First off, there are several essential oils, such as mandarin, bergamot, ylang ylang, and soy oil. These essential oils are all common ingredients in skincare, and to an extent, hair care. Another major ingredient is quinoa protein. In Central and South America, quinoa seeds have been a dietary staple for centuries. They are known as one of the world’s greatest sources of complex protein. Wheat protein is also included in this product. The only thing is that without a full ingredient list at hand, it is impossible to know whether or not the proteins within this product have been properly hydrolyzed for use with hair.

Without getting into too much science, protein is what makes up hair, but to make protein treatments useable on hair, they must be properly hydrolyzed to be adsorbed (meaning in short, to cling to hair) and absorbed into hair. If they’re not hydrolyzed properly, you might as well pour a protein shake on your head; it’s just as useless to the health of your hair.

Overall, this may be a good hair product that will help you detangle and moisturize damaged hair, but that’s all we know at this time. Take a look at our product review chart if you’d like more information on similar products.
