Eucerin has been a trusted name in skincare for over a hundred years. The brand began as a nineteenth century pharmacy operated by sole apothecary, Paul Beiersdorf, in Hamburg Germany. He conspired with pioneer dermatologist Paul Gerson Unna to provide the end of the 1880s with then cutting-edge skin care. In 1900, a young chemist working for the pair of Pauls filed a patent for ‘Eucerit’, the base for their products, and precursor to a legendary brand we all know today. Eucerin and related products have been around for so long not by chance, but because they were specifically studied and engineered for a purpose which they fulfill brilliantly. Eucerin is a top name in medical-strength skin hydration, but how does it hold up as part of the notoriously difficult to satisfy sensitive skin market? This anti-wrinkle skin-cream is their attempt, and it is an excellent one.
The only potentially questionable facets of this cream are a few select ingredients are not quite ideal for sensitive skin. This doesn’t make Eucerin Q10 a ‘bad’ choice, but it might not be the best for your skin type. But how does it do at fighting wrinkles? It’s underwhelming, to say the least. The wrinkle-fighting is present in one ingredient mainly (called Ubiquinone and explained further below) but as it is the only one, this cream does a lot more hydrating and anti-aging effects are much slower and less pertinent.

Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Cream Ingredients
Most of the ingredients in this cream are largely beneficial to skin, or at least not damaging. It does contain a few new botanical humectants to combat dryness, which helps keep youthful elasticity in the skin. But with only one anti-aging ingredient and a few iffy preservatives, it makes this cream feel more like a too-light blend for any real, lasting results.
Glycerin
Perhaps the single-most popular emollient commonly included in beauty products nowadays. It is a humectant, which means that it attracts water to itself. Most oils, whether plant-based like glycerin or lab-created, have the opposite effect of repelling water. However, Glycerin can pull water from deep skin tissue or even the air in a humid environment, thoroughly moisturizing the dermis.
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
More commonly known as Shea Butter, this botanical ingredient comes from grinding and processing the nuts of the Shea tree. It is a nearly unparalleled moisturizer due to the fact that it forms a barrier between our skin and the environment. It traps any added moisturizer in and prevents the water in our skin from evaporating, leaving a silky smooth feeling. Always be certain to cleanse well before using Shea Butter. It will trap any remaining dirt or debris under the skin as well, so instead of moist, soft skin, you could end up with acne or blackheads. 1
Butylene Glycol
While this corn-derived alcohol is clear and odorless, it is still a known potential irritant for human skin, whether sensitive or not. It is used mainly to dissolve mineral oils and extracts in a water-based solution, such as cosmetic creams and fragrances. It also serves to decrease viscosity, making beauty creams thinner and smoother so they leave a velvety consistency. Scientists and dermatologists debate the benefits of Butylene Glycol, as reported results are mixed, but it is agreed that those who are pregnant or wanting to become pregnant should avoid contact.
Ubiquinone
This potent antioxidant is naturally produced by the body for cell function and development. The body makes less and less with age, and is used in a variety of anti-aging cosmetics. Additional Ubiquinone can increase naturally produced levels, meaning products containing it not only hydrate skin but help it hydrate itself. It helps to reduce damage from free radicals and may even be more effective than Vitamin E. 2
1,2-Hexanediol
This chemical is used most often as a preservative and has been deemed ‘low concern’ based on currently modeled data. However, published chemical studies have noted that high concentrations can be a skin irritant. Contact with eyes is not advisable as it is harmful to eyes. It can also cause respiratory irritation and distress if inhaled. Topical applications, however, are ‘low risk’.

Directions: How to Use Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Cream
If your skin is especially sensitive, do a patch test on your hand or wrist twenty-four hours prior to applying to your face. If no irritation occurs, then apply to the face.
Be certain to cleanse and remove any dirt and debris from the surface of the skin and apply a small pearl-sized dollop to the surface of your skin, focusing on most troublesome areas. Massage lightly into the skin using small circular motions and taking care not to drag or pull on skin too harshly. Allow to soak in and then proceed with the rest of your skincare routine.

Eucerin has a long and steady history in the skincare world for a reason. They made quality products at an affordable cost and widely available. However, anti-aging is a little more specialized and specialty than just extra hydration, and this attempted entry just doesn’t cut it.
