In-Depth Review
Smile Bright is a company that specializes in teeth whitening. They produce in-dentist’s office treatments as well as kits that can be ordered online. Smile Bright’s home teeth whitening gel is peroxide-based, which makes it safe to use on teeth, enamel and gums. The gel also helps restore veneers and whiten fillings and implants to their original color. It does not replenish the minerals and vitamins that restore tooth enamel; it only removes surface stains. The kit contains a mouthpiece, a mini LED light and enough whitening gel for eight treatments. Smile Bright sells refills of the whitening gel on their website.
The Smile Bright Teeth Whiting system utilizes an intense hydrogen peroxide gel to whiten teeth. Unlike some other products, the gel is injected into a mouthpiece and mixes with the wearer’s saliva, thus ensuring that both the front and back of the teeth are exposed to the gel. The mouthpiece, however, does not appear to be customizable and there are numerous reports of it either falling off or leaking gel into the rest of the mouth. It is also not mentioned whether it is possible to do the top and bottom teeth separately, as you’d be able to with trays. Once the gel has been injected into the mouthpiece, the user places the mini LED light in their mouth and leaves it in for two twenty minute sessions.
Smile Bright does not clean teeth or strengthen enamel; it only removes surface stains. Exposure to coffee, red wine, some medicines, and smoking can all cause stains to reappear and may require a twenty minute follow-up treatment. Some people have reported severe gum sensitivity or a tingly sensation in the mouth. If you have sensitive gums or teeth, you may want to use less gel and a longer exposure time until you are used to the strength of the whitening gel. It is also stated that stains may appear to be more prominent after the first few uses, although that they will fade in time. The product only restores teeth to their natural shade; it does not bleach or brighten teeth. There is no recommended number of treatments. The website claims that the product has been clinically proven, but does not provide any information about the clinical testing.
